Cut off my counterbalance loom today, a mohair throw, in a canvas weave lace structure – another weave learned in Jane Stafford’s Lacy Places workshop. Actually, two throws. My friend Terry and I weave together once a week and we shared this warp. What fun.
JJ Montage handpaints mohair in “Fireball” and green laceweight wool. Random bands of teal mohair to give depth and break up the frenetic colour dance. Random pics of pink and muted plum to quieten.
The very open structure of 6 epi and 6ppi made the fabric so fragile, I was anticipating that wet finishing would be its demise. But a gentle fulling in the tub in hot soapy water gave it integrity, without losing the laciness.
Winter fire dance.
